This honey-coloured little thatch cottage sits nestled behind wildflowers, verbena and lavender in one of Kingham’s quieter corners on the village green. Designed and intended for two adults only, this one-bedroom hideaway blends a careful mix of textures and finishes to enhance the property’s period character, using high-quality craftsmanship and local materials throughout.
The interiors draw on the owner’s own collecting instincts — years in film, travels abroad, and a longstanding love of antiques, carefully curated rather than staged. A few minutes’ walk brings you to two of the Cotswolds’ best-loved pubs, The Wild Rabbit and The Kingham Plough, both serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, while a two-minute drive — or better still, a thirty-minute walk — leads to the celebrated Daylesford Organic and the Bamford Club.
OAK, FIRE & LOW BEAMS
Step through the cottage’s original front door into a hand-built, barn-sawn oak kitchen at the heart of the vaulted, open-plan kitchen and dining area, equipped with an electric AGA, underfloor heating, a Nespresso machine, a dishwasher, and a well-provisioned separate utility room with washer/dryer. Next door, the low-beamed sitting room has deep linen sofas, a log burner and Netflix — designed to slow down even the busiest of guests.
THE MASTER SUITE
Upstairs, the bedroom holds a king-size bed dressed in organic linens on a Vispring mattress. Next door is a large, marble-tiled shower room, and beyond that a separate bathroom and dressing room, both fitted with Waterworks taps and showers and stocked with Wildsmith bathroom products, rice-weave towels and light dressing gowns.
A SEAT ON THE GREEN
The private terrace looks out over the green — a fine spot for breakfast, evening drinks, or dinner for two. Private gated parking on the gravel drive gives room enough for an SUV.
