Ebrington Manor Chipping Campden

ENQUIRE

Ebrington Manor Chipping Campden is a lovely old, traditional manor house that has been in the same family since 1456 but recently updated to ensure it remains an extremely comfortable family home.

Ebrington Manor Chipping Campden is a lovely old, traditional manor house with the necessary recent updates to made to make it extremely comfortable family home; one that the family rent whilst still using themselves on a regular basis.

Ebrington Manor has been in the hands of the Fortescue family since 1456, when it was bought by John Fortescue, Chancellor to Henry VI. It was briefly confiscated by Edward IV but was restored to the family in 1471 and has remained in their ownership ever since and we believe it is one of the longest family owned houses in the UK.

The house is Grade II listed and the oldest part of the house dates back to the 1300 century, with the front built in the late late Elizabethan period; and the extended front door was added on in the 1700 century. The house faces due west and with its large windows in the hall and bedrooms it is filled with light in the afternoons and evenings. The views from the front of the house are wide ranging and on the horizon you can pick out Broadway Tower, five miles away.

The house retains all the original features with 17th century wood panelling, open fireplaces and wooden beams. The reception rooms all have large open fire places and the logs used are all from the farm. These make the rooms warm and inviting in winter but there is an entirely new central heating system. All the bathrooms are new and the new hot water system means that water pressure good and there is plenty of hot water. The accommodation offered is the principle part of the Manor, which has its own drive, parking, gardens and grounds. There is separate accommodation at the rear of the house, which is very occasionally occupied by the owner’s family when guest are in situ. This has a completely separate entrance and driveway and does not affect the privacy or enjoyment of the main part of the house or grounds in any way.

There is a small spring fed lake – when last tested the spring water was bottling quality – very close to the house, with a Cotswold Stone boathouse on the bank. There is a large African Inspired Boma / Firepit, with seating around, which can be used as a BBQ. The lake Is lovely to swim in as the clay lining retains the warmth from the sun throughout the summer. There is paddle board, rowing boat as well as inflatables and water toys. The lake Is stocked with carp and there are fishing rods available for any keen anglers. There is croquet, football and pétanque all of which which can be played on any of the outdoor spaces as well as a dedicated croquet lawn.

Additional Information

The location is beautiful, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and unspoilt. The house stands in the middle of the farm, which has traditionally grown fruit and still produces some of the most ancient varieties of apples, as well as plums, pears and walnuts. These are sold locally and the apples are also collected and made into cider by the farm manager’s grandson; the farm manager is now 85 and has been here since 1955.

The Village of Ebrington is within a short walk of the house, a quiet and charming village. It has a fantastic award winning pub and a really great farmshop, butcher and café. Ebrington Manor is also on the doorstep of the likes of Chipping Campden, Broadway, with Stow on the Wold, Chipping Norton, Daylesford and Soho Farmhouse not far away. Back toward Warwickshire, Stratford upon Avon is only a 20 minute drive.
