Ampney Park Ampney Crucis

Ampney Park is a Cotswold country house of considerable age and character, set in private grounds in Ampney Crucis, Gloucestershire. The house carries three centuries of architectural history across its Jacobean, Georgian, and Victorian wings. It has recently been fully restored and refurnished from the ground up — the interiors are new throughout, designed in keeping with the house’s period character but finished to a contemporary standard.

The estate is available exclusively to one party at a time. There are no other guests, no shared spaces, and no public access to the grounds.

Grounds & Privacy

The gates enclose mature parkland, lakes, and woodland that belong solely to the house. Once you arrive, the property is yours. There is no through traffic, no public footpaths across the grounds, and no external access of any kind during your stay. The estate sits about ninety minutes from London by car and fifteen minutes from Kemble station.

Arrival & The House

On arrival, guests are met by our concierge at the private gate and shown into the entrance hall — a large, well-proportioned space with an open fire and a staircase that gives a good sense of what the house is. The drawing room is available for drinks before dinner; the library and morning room offer somewhere to read or sit quietly and the house works well for not just entertaining but also for those who want to be comfortable and left to themselves.

The kitchen is fully equipped and provisioned, and a private chef can be available to prepare meals to your party’s requirements — working with seasonal local produce and the estate’s own kitchen garden where the season allows. The wine cellar is stocked for guests who wish to take a closer interest. The household team manages the practical running of the house throughout your stay.

Beyond the house: an indoor pool, a tennis court, sculpture gardens, and open parkland for walking.

Dining

The formal dining room seats a full party and has been refurnished as part of the wider restoration — a proper setting for an occasion, without feeling stiff. Meals can be taken wherever suits: the dining room, the kitchen, the breakfast room or outside in good weather.

THE ROOMS

Six rooms, each individually designed and refurnished as part of the full restoration of the house. All are included within an exclusive-use booking.

SOPHIA

A well-proportioned room with a bespoke super-king four-poster bed, fabric-covered walls, and a large walk-in shower ensuite. Quiet, well-lit, and finished throughout with care.

ROSIE

The largest and most individual of the six rooms. Hand-painted floral murals in a Gustavian style cover the walls; the bed is a Hästens super-king four-poster. There is a separate private sitting room, and the ensuite has both a walk-in shower and a soaking tub. A room that rewards an unhurried stay.

PLEYDELL

A queen canopied bed, fabric-wrapped walls, and a chaise longue. The ensuite has a large walk-in shower. A calm, well-finished room.

CHAPEL

A room of good architectural character — the setting is unusual, and the bathtub is positioned to make the most of it. Hästens queen-size bed, walk-in ensuite shower, and a private sitting room.

HARRY

High ceilings, a super-king four-poster bed, and a sitting area with a fireplace. South-facing, with a view across the garden. Harry shares a bathroom with Paddock — the two rooms suit guests travelling together.

PADDOCK

A comfortable double room with high ceilings and views over the fields and village. Shares a bathroom with Harry.

The Area

Bibury, Barnsley, and the market town of Cirencester are all within ten minutes. The Crown of Crucis — the village pub — is a short walk from the estate. The wider Cotswolds is well mapped in the guide provided on arrival, which covers restaurants, producers, shops, and things worth seeing within easy reach.
