England’s Finest
Sat 18 May @ 7:30pm
The CSO is always delighted to be able to perform the best of English composers and this collection of England’s Finest is an opportunity to be relished. The concert includes two separate suites by Holst: The Perfect Fool, a delightful ballet suite adapted by the composer from an earlier opera of the same name, and a suite of Folk Songs from the “Lost Manuscripts”, rediscovered in New Zealand and first performed by CSO in 2022.
Also included in this collection of England’s Finest is a work by Delius following his time living and working in Florida. The Florida Suite is inspired by the landscape and culture of the region and the orange groves in which he worked during that period of his life.
No collection of England’s Finest would be complete without a work by Edward Elgar, and his Cello Concerto is considered by many to be his very finest. The CSO is delighted to welcome back Rebecca McNaught as the soloist for this performance.
