Quince and Clover at Great Tew occupies the village’s Old Post Office, and has built a genuine following as one of the best café stops in this corner of the Cotswolds. It is a relaxed, seasonal café rather than a formal restaurant — walk-in only, open for breakfast, brunch and lunch six days a week — built around a beautiful shop counter of homemade pastries, cakes and sausage rolls, seasonal salads, and its own in-house ice cream. The same team runs a well-regarded event catering arm for weddings and private dining across the Cotswolds, but the Great Tew café is where it all started.
A Café Built Around the Seasons
The kitchen combines seasonal fruit and vegetables, often locally sourced, with high-welfare meats, responsibly sourced seafood, free-range eggs and sourdough bread, turning them into café classics such as açai berry bowls, ricotta pancakes, chorizo eggs and grilled sourdough with free-range eggs. An all-day brunch menu runs on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, alongside daily-changing soups, stews and hearty seasonal salad bowls built on pulses, grains and roasted or pickled vegetables — all available to eat in or take away.
House Coffee, Own-Brand Ice Cream and Hampers to Take Home
Quince and Clover roasts its own house blend, Resolute, with Origin Coffee in Porthleven, Cornwall, and produces its own ice cream under The North Cotswold Ice Cream Company label, made with local Cotswold cream and milk — including ice cream milkshakes blended to order. For a night in, the café’s ‘At Home’ menu offers part- or fully-prepared dishes, from slow-cooked lamb shoulder to deep-filled tarts and seasonal salads, packaged in wicker hampers for collection with seven days’ notice, typically for parties of six or more.
Planning Your Visit
Quince and Clover is open six days a week, 8.30am to 4pm (closed Tuesdays), with breakfast served until noon and lunch from noon to 3pm. It is walk-in only, with no reservations taken.
