Copsegrove Farm Feast is not a restaurant in the usual sense, but a series of seasonal long-table suppers held in a beautifully restored barn on a 300-acre working farm in the Toadsmoor Valley, just outside Bisley and a short drive from Stroud. Run by farm owners Kate and Martin alongside chef Ian Ballantyne, each feast is built around whatever the season offers — from Burns Night and a Harvest Feast to Christmas suppers — with foraged hedgerow foliage decorating the tables and live music echoing through the barn.
A Working Farm & a Barn Full of Long Tables
Copsegrove is a genuine working farm, and the Feast evenings grew out of that: locally produced ingredients, cooked imaginatively by chef Ian Ballantyne and served at long candlelit tables decorated with foliage gathered from the farm’s own hedgerows and woodland. Guests are seated together rather than at separate tables, and the atmosphere is deliberately informal and communal — regulars describe it as a room where, as one review put it, ‘no one feels like a stranger’.
A Calendar Built Around the Seasons
The feasts change character through the year. Winter evenings gather around a roaring fire with hearty, warming dishes; in summer, the courtyard opens up under festoon lighting, with hay bales to perch on around a fire bowl. Past themes have included Greek, Spanish and Italian nights, a Burns Night supper with bagpipes and haggis, and a Harvest Feast built around venison from the farm and locally foraged fruit, vegetables and fungi, with Christmas feasts and carols in the courtyard closing out the year.
